When should plastic enclosures be chosen?
Plastic enclosures are the right choice when the installation requires light weight, electrical insulation and good resistance to moisture and chemicals. They are often used for control equipment, sensors and electronics where corrosion or condensation may be a problem.
Plastic enclosures are particularly suitable in:
- environments with high humidity
- applications requiring insulating materials
- installations where machining and drilling needs to be simple
An alternative in case of high mechanical load is to use a ↖ cabinets in steel plate .
When are materials other than plastic more suitable?
Plastic enclosures are widely used in many industrial applications due to their low weight and good chemical resistance. However, in more demanding environments, other materials may be better suited to ensure long life and mechanical stability.
Other materials may be a better choice when:
- the enclosure is at risk of strong shocks, impacts or vandalism
- the installation requires very high mechanical strength
- the temperature may exceed the long-term durability of the material
- the application places high demands on fire safety or structural stability
In these cases, ↖ is often chosen cabinets in steel plate or ↖ cabinets in stainless steel, depending on the environment, hygiene requirements and mechanical impact.
What distinguishes different types of plastic enclosures?
The difference between plastic enclosures lies primarily in the choice of material, IP class and area of application.
Polycarbonate enclosures
Polycarbonate enclosures provide high impact resistance and good temperature resistance. They are often used in industrial environments where the enclosure needs to withstand both mechanical impact and UV exposure.
Polyester enclosures (GRP)
Polyester enclosures are suitable for demanding outdoor environments and chemically aggressive environments. The material provides very good corrosion resistance and long service life.
IP class and environmental requirements
The choice of IP rating affects the enclosure's protection against dust and water. For outdoor installations or washable environments, IP66 or higher is often required.
